“Once upon a time there was a woman of the name of Biddy Morearity living in Dublin.”
Once upon a time there was a woman of the name of Biddy Morearity living in Dublin. She used to sell eggs and one day a man bought eggs from her. He had no money to pay for them but he promised he would pay sometime. He got eggs and soon after he went to America without paying for the eggs. In ten years time he came home again and one day he was walking the street with Daniel OConnel. He noticed the woman's house and he said to Dan that he bought a shillings worth of eggs from that woman one time and never paid for them. Dan OC told him that it would be a great sin if he did not pay for the eggs. He went in to the woman and told her that he bought eggs from her such a year. He asked her how much were they. Then she said if a chicken came out of each egg and grew up to be hens and lay more eggs and chickens to come out of them, she could be rich. He went out and told his story to Dan OConnel and he said "Didn't I tell you not to mind going in at all"(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
