  1. 1. Girls still amuse themselves by threading daisy tops by means of needle and thread. A rush is sometimes used for threading. The threaded daisies are called Cats' Tails.
    2. Rag dolls were formerly made by girls.
    3. Boys still chase tops. Twenty years ago they played at pegging tops. The tops were purchased for 1d and brought to the forge to get a steel spear into them.
A good peg top consisted of
"Steel spear, crab head, marline cord and a good peg."
A bad one was called a "giggler"; one that went around smoothly was called a "sleeper."
Sometimes tops were made from thread spools.
    4. Pork Guns (Pop Guns). Made from rather thick stick, hollowed out by means of red poker. Another stick used to run through. Lumps of wet paper, a ball of chewed paper or a ball of chewed cord used.
    5. "Haw Shooters" made from elders about 9" long. Put stick in mouth and shoot haws.
