  1. About fifty years ago Nailers used to go round to forges bringing with them their own small anvils. A "fire-helper" used to work with them to keep the irons hot A bar of Swedish iron, 1/4" square was used for making nails. Four irons were put into the fire at a time. The reddest was first pulled out and hammered quickly to point it. The nails were afterwards finally pointed. Maddens of Mullinahone were formerly Nailers.
