  1. Last year in the Drangan district there was a beautiful farmer's house, the property of Mr. Slattery burned to the ground. The accident occurred while the man of the house was out giving a loan of tackling to a neighbouring man. As he had the tackling stored away in a dark room he lit a candle to find it. He went away and forgot about the candle, which, when it burned down, burned the chair on which it rested. It being a thatched house, the thatch quickly caught fire and the house soon went in flames and was burned to the ground.
