  1. About forty years ago there lived in the parish of Mullinahone a very strong man whose name was James Winkle. He was a native of Co. Cork and was a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary. He was over six feet two inches in height with strong limbs and slight body. At the time he performed this feat which I shall describe he was about twenty six years of age.
    One day a group of men were talking together of the strong men they knew, and telling of the great feats they had performed. Winkle, who was rather shy in manner was listening. One of his
