  1. There was a man named John Rowham who lived in Callan. He was very fond of drink. One day he was bringing out a jar of beer to men who were saving his hay. On his way out he met the Parish Priest who said to him: "What have you in the jar"? "Beer, Father" he answered. "Where are you going with it"? asked the Priest. "To a few men who are working in the meadow," was the reply. "You'll get your share of it I suppose." "I will sir" he answered. The Priest then said: "Will you make a sacrifice to day? Spill out your share of it." "I couldn't do that, Father," he replied. "My share is on the bottom."
