- It is said that many treasures are hidden in the Abbey in Askeaton. Some of the Earls and Countesses of Desmond are buried there and it was the custom of the time to bury the choicest treasures with the nobles. Tradition says that a diamond necklace and an immence sum of gold was placed in the coffin of the Countess of the Fifteenth Earl, whose grave is situated near the High Altar of the Abbey. No attempt has been made to unearth it because it is necessary to eat a certain food before the positions of the grave can be located and no one has ever eaten this. Lights are said to be seen vicinity but nothing guards or protects it.
