    is a townland situated south of Askeaton. It means the rabbit warren and derived its name from the numerous rabbit-burrows which were there.

    GREENISH ISLAND (Oileán na Gréine)
    is an island in the Shannon a few miles from Askeaton. It means "the Island of the Sun" and got its name from the sun-worshippers who dwelt there.

    is a hole called after the priests who hid there during the Penal Days. It is on Mr Hunt's land beside the Deel.

    DUNDEN'S POND
    is a portion of the River Deel near Askeaton. It was named after a miller who lived there long ago.

    THE SHORT CORNER
    a portion of the river near Mr Hunt's land where the river bends sharply. There is a very swift current there and a man was drowned there some years ago.
