    There were three brothers long ago.

    meet the king. The three of them started early in the morning and went to the nearest village where all three had some drink. After leaving the village the young fellow put each of his brothers lying right in the middle of the road so that if the King's coach went along he should either roll over them and pick them up. The young fellow himself lay on the road a little distance further on. The King came along in his coach and the coach man seeing the first man on the road said to the King "There is a man lying on the road either drunk or dead". The King said to pick him up and put him aside so he did. They came to the second brother on the road and the King also told the coach man to take him and pull him aside. Next they came to the young fellow. The coach man also picked him up and lay him aside. "Take him and put him aside said the King he will going to the gallows yet". When the young fellow came to the two brothers he asked him what the King had said to them. They said "nothing" and asked what he said to the young fellow himself. He said that I would go to the gallows yet. On hearing this the brothers began to cry. Next morning
