On Christmas night at six o clock...

    (continued from previous page)
    This holy Xmas night
    They might need these letters
    And I always hope spray
To take fond tidings to them from loved ones far away
Such work to me is soothing and the burden I can bear
And when I make them happy I always have my share
Picture that man of years yet quite as a child
The many times he's over worked yet loving meek and milk
The messages he's asked to bring, the places he will call
The hardened hearts that ask him yet he'll obey them all
Soon he'll wish fare-well to the places and folks he knew
The more that gentle heart was known the greater the friendship grew
All will wish him happiness and from our hearts we'll pray
That he and wife and family may enjoy many an Xmas Day.

There was a man there long ago and his wife died.

There was a man there long ago and his wife died. He was making butter. One day he got eggs in his hay. He couldn't make butter any more. He was in great trouble. One day a travelling woman called and he told her the story. She told him the next time that he would make butter to put an iron into the fire and to let it there until he had the butter made.He did that and he was able to make butter ever afterwards.
It is a custom in the Dingle district to sprinkle with water anything which is loaned to a corpse house before returning them
