    When I was a young nipper about ten years of age...

    wondered when the woman knew me so well, for I had never ayter seen herself or the other man before in me life. I tould her what happened me an' that I was afraid to go home. Well says she in the first place you must be hungry, an' you must have something to eat.
    The kittle was put down and the tay was made an' then I was brought up into the parlour and the greatest lay out that any man ever got I got that night. The woman brought me down a plate of mate, and then she shut the parlour doar, and I started to ate in ernest. I was lookin' at the mate on the plate an I didn't like the look of it at all. There were blue stripes through it, I looked in under the table an I saw a great big
