    There was a certain house in the south...

    There was a certain house in the south of the county and it was said to be haunted. Strange noises used to be heard in this house and curious lights were to seen. It was said that the man of the house cut his throat with a razor and it wasn't known whether it was by accident or not.
    There was a man come to this house one night and he had no place to sleep except in this room. He said he that he wasn't a bit afraid of the ghosts in the world and he went into the room and went to bed without thinking of the like. When it was about twelve o clock he was awakened and looking up he saw a man in the corner of the room and he putting soot on his face
