  1. On the Millbrook side of Oldcastle and quite near the town was the old Workhouse as it was called years ago. For many years none of the buildings has been occupied.
A few years ago the County Board of Health took over this place, pulled down the old buildings and used the material to build several new houses. Some of these are finished and already occupied. Others are being finished off.
One evening during the summer of 1937, while the men were engaged at work, a leipreachán appeared to them. He was about three feet high, was dressed in red, smoking a pipe and carrying a walking stick. He sat upon a large stone watching the men but did not speak to any of them.
