  1. Many years ago the people ate only two meals a day. They ate in the morning and evening. In the morning they had porridge and buttermilk and in the evening potatoes and salt and buttermilk.
    Before cups came to be used Noggins were the drinking vessels.
    More eggs were eaten on Easter Sunday than on other days and because none were eaten during Lent. Pancakes were eaten on Shrove Tuesday night. People did not sit round the table for meals as they do now but around a pot in the centre of the kitchen or beside the fire.
