Ar an leathanach seo

  1. According to tradition there was a monastery on Castle Island in Lough Ramor in olden times. It belonged to the Cistercian monks who were reputed to be very wealthy and to have precious golden ornaments and vessels. The bodies of the dead were usually brought from the mainland to Castle Island for interment there. A robber, hearing about the wealth that was in the monastery, decided to steal it. He pretended to be dead and his body was brought to the island. During the night he got out of the coffin and robbed the monastery. Having secured the stolen property to his back he swam to the mainland and has never been heard of since.
