   “I live in the townland of Lisdangan.”

   I live in the townland of Lisdangan in the parish of Newmarket and in the barony of Duhallow and in the County Cork.

   There are eight houses in the townland and about forty people living there. Of these eight houses five of them are slated and three of them are thatched.

   The townland got its name from a Lios that was in the place that was well fortified with high walls long ago, but the walls are now fallen and hardly noticable, It was the burial place of Kilcroaghera. There is a fort in Lisdangan also it is the second biggest in Ireland.

   There are no old people living in Lisdangan. There were a lot of houses in Lisdangan long ago. The ruins of several of them can be seen now. Mostly all the people who used to live in these houses emigrated
