- In a house beside Scotstown there was a ghost. It is in the townland of Coonian. One night when the mother and children were sitting at the fire they heard a noise upstairs. The mother got a light and looked upstairs but could see nobody.
The next night they heard the same noise but nobody was to be seen. When the children went to bed they were being jagged with pins. No matter where the children went the ghost was after them, even to the Parochial House.
People had to stay with the children during the night. One night a man saw like a little dog running up one of the children. He tried to catch it but could find nothing. Every night the clothes were were lifted off the children and flung on the floor, and all the lamps in the house were blown out.
The bedpost was struck one night and the sound was heard a long distance away. The ghost was there for six months until Rev. Fr. Smyth cast it out. He asked it several questions and it answered them all and went off singing.- Bailitheoir
