    He watched the risen moon
    Till also his thoughts flew back once more.
    To lovely sweet Drumgoon.

    The tears rolled gently down his cheeks.
    He spoke thus mournfully.
    O, how I long on Breifni hills.
    My dear old home to see.
    To hear the blackbird among the boughs
    Pour forth his gladstone tune
    That echo through the gloomy groves
    Round lovely sweet Drumgoon.

    It was there I spend lifes brightest hours.
    Free from the clouds of care.
    Where ere I roam not pleased my heart.
    Like days spent roaming there.
    With comrades gay did fondly stray
    Each Sunday afternoon.
    Till the shade of night came falling.
    O'er you lovely sweet Drumgoon

    Also where are these comrades now
    With whom I used to stray.
    Before I left my native home.
