  1. Long ago there were very little toys imported into Ireland so the children had to make their own as best they could. The girls would make dolls and teddy bears mostly. They would cut about seven inches off the top of an old stocking and sew one end of it then they would would stuff it with hay and sew the other end. They would then get a potatoe and cut it out in the form of a head and sew that on one end. On the other end they would put two bits of sticks as legs. They would make the teddy bears almost the same way.
    Boys now-a-days make plug guns out of board tree. I would get a piece about six inches long and clean all the dust out of the inside. Then I would get a ramrod made out of hazel and make bullets out of brown paper.
