    My father says that if you see streamers from the sun or if there is a black ring round the moon bring your overcoat with you. When we see black clouds and a rainbow in the sky or we hear the curlews whistling or the cat puts her paw over her ear three times when she is washing all these signs show us that rain is coming.
    A wet and windy May, fill the garden with corn and hay.
    If March comes in like a lion it goes out like a lamb.
    Candlemas day fair and clear, two winters in the one year.
    Every month in the year curses a fair February.
    If we see a blue blaze in the fire
