   Long ago there were no roads in Ireland. People travelled through the fields and bit by bit they made paths. Later they used these paths when going to work. When the path got wet and muddy they threw stones and gravel on them. This was the beginning of our roads. Later people built their houses on the roadside, and some of these old groups of houses were the beginnings of our modern towns and villages. Every Sunday people gather on the cross roads and play "skittles" and " pitch and toss". There is a mass path coming from Redmonstown through the new graveyard to Loughnavalley church which is still used.
