  1. There one lived in this parish in the townland of Fernhill a man named Bill Hehir. He was a champion walker and there was no one found to beat him.
He won many prizes at every sports meeting
For exercise he used to start from his own house and walk by Black Head, Ballyvaughan, and home by Corkscrew Hill, accompained by a comrade on a bicycle.
He was fond of walking at night and people used be frightened when he past them so swiftly and silent by. The last walking match he had in this country was at sports at Toovahera a great walker from Galway came to walk him. The match was very exciting but Hehir won. After that he went to England.
