I heard a man named Patrick Tobin telling the following story. Once upon a time there lived a certain man who had a moate at the bottom of his field. It is said that fairies dwell in these moats and nobody should interfere with them. On the top of this moat there was a bush and the man made up his mind to cut it up for the fire. The next day he got a saw and went out to cut it down. As it was falling one of the branches struck him in the eye and blinded him.
A few days before he died his sight was restored.
