“In the townland of Ardane and parish of Bansha is a well called "St Berrihert's Well" and about two hundred yards west of the well is a disused graveyard known as "St Berriherts Kyle".”

In the townland of Ardane and parish of Bansha is a well called "St Berrihert's Well", and about two hundred yards west of the well is a disused graveyard known as "St Berriherts Kyle". Both the well and kyle lie close to the northern base of the Galtee Mountains amid charming scenery.The saint is commemorated on the 18th February which is the "Pattern" day. On this day and until the 26th Feb. many people make their rounds at the well and kyle. The well is now a large pond. The tradition is that its water cannot be boiled or heated. Overhanging the well are numerous birch trees and one small thorn bush covered with multi-coloured rags.The kyle is circular in shape and is overgrown with oak trees and thorn bushes. The church, if ever there was one has entirely disappeared. All the carved stones found here have been collected into a "station". People take this home with them(continues on next page)
