“There is a hill called the Hill of Cromhil near the village of Kilteely County Limerick.”
There is a hill called the "Hill of Cromhil near the village of Kilteely County Limerick. It is the belief of the people that this hill got its name from Oliver Cromwell. it is not true however because Cromhil is an Irish word "Crom-Coill" which means the sloped or bent wood. This is how the hill got its name:- Long ago a great forest grew around the hill. The Irish language was the spoken language of the people at that time so they called it "Crom-Coill".
Some time afterwards the people in the neighbourhood shortened the word to Cromhill.- Bailitheoir
