  1. There was a hedge school at Rathduff Cross in a small house in a field now owned by Mr. Larkin.
    The teacher's name was Mr. Garett Gould. The subjects taught there were English, Irish, and writing. There was no books used they used write on slate with chalk.
    The scholars used sit on stools in the school, and the teacher had a blackboard of his own.
