    Once upon a time there lived a king and queen who had an only son.

    Once upon a time there lived a king and queen who had an only son. The son had a large hump on his back, but nevertheless they loved him dearly, and when he was young his mother got his name branded on his chest lest he should ever get lost.
    When he had reached the age of manhood he went out one night to a dance as he was very fond of dancing and music. He wandered far from the castle. Soon he grew very tired from carrying the hump, so he lay down to rest. He heard music and he sat up to listen. Three beautiful ladies dressed in white were standing before him. They told him they were going to a dance, and they asked him to accompany them. After a while he consented to go.
    The dance was held in a grand palace. When it had been in progress for some time a lady asked the prince to dance with her. He declined on account of his hump; however
