  1. The first morning in May old women used to get up at day break to skim the wells and gain the benefit of the farmers' milk & butter for the year.
    On St Patrick's eve people used to stay up until midnight. Then they burned furze bushes until they had a heap of ashes & then they scattered the ashes on their heads to have good luck for the year.
    On St Brigid's Eve girls used to dress themselves in cloaks & go around from door to door looking for money & often getting quite a considerable sum.
