On St Patrick's eve people used to stay up until midnight. Then they burned furze bushes until they had a heap of ashes & then they scattered the ashes on their heads to have good luck for the year.
On St Brigid's Eve girls used to dress themselves in cloaks & go around from door to door looking for money & often getting quite a considerable sum.

- Long ago beggars went around with donkeys (droves of them). They used sleep on the roadside and on old ruins. They got their food in the houses and in exchanged the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
