- In 1779 a tower was built on Bunowen hill. The land-lord of the place wanted to built a house but the people would not let him. They said it would be dangerous to shipping on the coast. Geghan was a very cross and bad man. O'Connell called him the Connemara cur. The place can be seen yet where he was going to built the house.
