  1. There was once a poor family, living in the district of Clifden. The old man and a woman had two children Tom and Mary. Tom had a fiddle and his favourite tune was "Come back to Ireland." He used to play so nicely that he used to be invited to all the dances in the district. But as for work on the farm he was no good. The old man had a brother in America named Peter. Peter sent a letter to his brother telling him to sell his land and come out to America.
    Tom's surname was Daly. Tom Daly had cousins living also in the district. One day a play came to the village and he wanted a job on it. The manager employed Tom for a year. Tom went home and he never told that
