This castle stood near Mulcahy's Cross or as it was known to the old people " Cros no Seano Céardchan ". This name still survives among the old inhabitants.The constant drop of rain which has worn a hole in the stone the people term " Braon Sionnsior ", and say it is the widow's tear.
- One morning as a woman was coming across the fields near Ballinard churchyard after milking cows she saw a little (?) of gold on the ground and as she had no vessel in which to carry the gold she lay down the spancel to know where she found the gold, she ran home for a vessel but lo! when she reutrned the field was covered all over with spancels and there was no sign of the gold.
