  1. There was an old school in Doochary. There were neither seats nor desks nor boards on the floor. It was a blue clay floor. The children were very well educated. They could read, write, spell and were very good at arithmetic. The children would fill stockings with boiled and unboiled potatoes. They would throug the potatoes into the fire in the morning and the teacher would eat them as well as the children at playtime. They had slates to write on.
