  1. Long ago the people had many passtimes, and one of the greatest was pitching pence. But it was not with pence they played, it was with buttons, and the children had not even one button on their clothes but they had pulled off. Another great passtime was bow and arrow. They put up a target and fired at the target.
    Making bird creels was in the sport also, in order to catch blackbirds. Hurly was also a great passtime. But they had no hurly ball to play,
