  1. In the townland of Gortnamuckla some hundred yards from the village of Glenties stand an old school. About fifty years ago school was taught there by a teacher named Gallagher. The teacher lived in a wood that lies away to the back of the school and the walls of the teachers home are still standing. The teacher never went by the road to school but he would cross the fields, in order to be at the school before the scholars in order to know who did or did not take turf. It was the rule in
