  1. A number of years ago there was a school in the townland of Derries in a place known as Mullin Crinn. It was a small stone house and the only seats the scholars had was dry turf sods. The teacher sat in the middle of the class while he was teaching. He was a man from Tyrone by the name of Peter Henry and he spoke nothing but Irish to the scholars. He spent a night in each scholar's home and at the end of each week every scholar had to bring one penny and this was the pay that the teacher
