Potatoes
My father sows potatoes every year especially in spring time .He generally
sows them in drills.He ploughs the ground in the beginning if spring.Then he opens drills in it in March,He then spreads manure in the hollows of the drills.He then cuts the potatoes .They are called scolains.He spreads the potatoes 10" or 12" inches apart.He covers the potatoes then with clay.
They are left alone then for six weeks.Then he softens them with a spade .Then you can see the small stalk appearing over the clay.He then after a while lands them.They are left alone then until July.
Then they are sprayed. He buys the spraying stuff in the shop.He mixes washing soda and blue-stone together.Sometimes he sprays them three or four times.
He digs them in Autumn.He digs them with a plough.There is great enthusiasm when they are picking(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
