    Bird Baskets.
Long ago some people lived by trapping birds. In parts of Ireland the cages were called"bird-cradles" and in other parts they are called "bird baskets".
First a frame was made and sticks put one after another till it reached the top.,The sticks were short as they ascended.
Then it was bound securely with a cord.
When it was in use a "gabhlóg"was put under it and a stick passed through it .
Then the stick was caught on a spring and bread-crumbs put inside it.
When the bird came for food it perched on the spring ,the stick fell down on the ground ,the cage fell over the bird and it was trapped.
