  1. About forty years there was a great storm which left ruthless destruction after it. Its boisterous winds scoured the peaceful valleys, bent the treetops and whistled through their almost leafless branches. It tore up the hillsides and swept along the lonely moors.
The storm raged with unabated fury for twelve hours. It raised roofs from dwelling and out houses, knocked hay-stacks and trees and caused other damages.
After twelve hours the equinoctial gales ceased and its like has not been heard of since.
