“Long ago a man named Driscoll lived in the parish of Killimer.”
Long ago a man named Driscoll lived in the parish of Killimer. One day a poor man came into the house looking for lodgings but Driscoll said that he should sleep in the kitchen, and he said that it would be alright, and Driscoll also told him that there is a great noise in the corner every night, the man said nothing. That night when he went to bed he heard the great noise in the corner. The man was so tormented that he said to the thing in the corner 'what is wrong with you' and the voice answered and said 'if you will take away this pot of gold it will be alright'. The next morning when Driscoll got up, the poor man told him the story about the crock of gold, and he told him to take up the flag to see what is there, and he would not. When the man went out Driscoll took up the flag and he found the crock of gold.- Bailitheoir
