- The local fairs are held in Newtowncashel, Lanesboro and Lisnacusha. Buyers sometimes go round to the houses and buy stock.
The fairs are held on the street except at Lisnacusha where they are held in a field.
Luck-money is given when an animal is sold. The money is given arrcording to the bargain.
When the bargain is made the two men strike hands. A rope which is not dear is put on a horse when bringing him to the fair and it is given with the horse.
An annual fair is held in Lanesboro on 12th February. Horses are mostly sold at this fair but some cattle are sold. Long ago all the women used to go to that fair to help their husbands make the bargains and to sell butter and fowl. They do not go now. Tinkers gather up every year for the fair. Trick-of-the-loops and fruitsellers and people who keep stalls(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
