- Long ago people used not wear boots until they were going to get married. Nowadays children go barefooted in Summer and wear boots in Winter. They do not go barefooted to Mass or to town.
Long ago people used to believe that if they wore stockings to bed the fairies would come during the night and steal them away leaving someone else in their place. They also believed if they did not put a coal in the water after washing their feet the fairies would come and leave them without water during the coming year.
