the stone. The next day it appeared in the newspaper did anyone know what the large hole was made for in the centre of the fort. It happened the hole was made near some large house, and the Police thought it was somebody trying to blow up the house.
About a week after the men from "Trumero" went and brought with them an implement which broke the stone. They found a precious treasure and alot of money. They divided it among themselves. Some of the men went to America. They used often to see fairies at the window of the house at night. It is said "Trumero" road was only a lane. About twenty years ago it was made a road. The place where the hole was made at the Crookedwood is to be seen still. This happened about the year 1821.
The above story was told to me by my father. William Murtagh Carne Coole County Westmeath.
