Another poet wrote this:

- Raftery the poet was born in Mayo. He was blind. I do not know much about him but I heard an old man once singing one of his songs. I can only remember one verse of it.
"Once I had a servant maid the best that could be found,
She used to bear me company when going to the pond,
My linen sheets and canvas she'd wash as white as snow,
