    at Castletown Cross and Mr. Ball's forge is situated at Reffin Cross. There is a tin roof on Mr. Donegan's and a thatched roof on Mr. Ball's. There is a fire place in each forge. They both shoe horses and asses. Mr Ball makes harrows and Mr. Donegan makes gates.

  2. There are two forges in the parish of Castletown. The blacksmith's names are Mr. Donegan and Mr. Pat Ball. Mr. Donegan's forge is situated beside Castletown Cross, and Mr Ball's forge is beside Clooney Cross. Mr Ball's father and grandfather were smiths and worked in this forge. It is a very old looking forge and is thatched. The thatch can be seen from the inside and the wall seem to be built of lime and clay. There is a big half door on this forge and one window. There is only one fireplace in it. There is a big hole in the ground for holding
