    A three-masted schooner named 'Rob Roy' belonging to Mr. John Farrell of Youghal, Co. Cork was lost while crossing to Cardiff for a cargo of coal. This terrific storm lasted for two days.
    A Heavy Snowfall
    A heavy snowfall occurred in the year 1917 on the fourth of February. In some places the snow was thirty feet deep. A rate collector making a short cut through the Knockmealdown Mountains was found dead by a search party on the following morning.
