  1. Before the Railway was made from Dublin to Westport, all the goods were carried by horse and cart to those places. On one occasion a large vessel of whiskey was brought by cart from Dublin. When he came near Westport the horse was very tired and weak and fell on the road. The vessel of whiskey rolled out of the cart and burst on the road and the whiskey ran into a water table. In the mean time the horse got up and drank some of the whiskey, and again fell drunk on the road. The man thinking he was dead, not knowing he drank the whiskey, sold him to a passing horse skinner who skinned him at once, and went off with the skin. He was not long gone with the skin when the horse got up and walked a bit. He was then sober. The people of that place came to help the man. They all considered
