body would come and knock at the door. The water would open the door and nobody would come in. If the door was closed again before the water was thrown out the knocking would continue. It was said that is was someone who was thirsty at the door and wanted to drink the water. Sometimes they made shoes from rabbit-skins or calf-skins. They also wore shoes made from timber, called clogs, or shoes with iron soles. These shoes were very heavy and hard to wear. Some of the people wore the skin shoes inside them like stockings. The children never wore shoes till they were twelve years.
