- The houses long ago were very different to the houses now. There were two-storey houses at that time. They were very small with a kitchen and one or two rooms. They were not roofed with slates like now. Some of them were roofed with thatch, some were roofed with scraws, and some with tarred canvas. There were no glass windows only empty holes.
