  1. Long ago there were no doctors or nurses like now. The people cured the sicknesses themselves. They had certain cures for every sickness. They made up bottles for some ailments. If a person got a burn in her foot or hand she would get a leaf called the "hound's tongue." She would leave on side of it on the burn for three days and then she would do the same with the other side and the burn would be healed. If a person
